Port Huron-area community looks at farm animal rules

(PORT HURON TOWNSHIP) — A Port Huron-area community is looking at amending zoning laws for housing livestock and farm animals. Port Huron Township planning commissioners had previously this year discussed regulating the care and keeping of livestock on individual parcels of property. Now, the planning commission holds a hearing Thursday. Kirk Lavigne, the township’s building official and zoning administrator, says the township wants to make sure it complies with state and federal regulations as it makes changes. Originally, proposed changes included minimum acreage to keep livestock. But those were scrapped as officials took another look.
