Environmental Assurance Program Verifies Three Local Farms

(AREA) — The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development’s Michigan Agriculture Environmental Assurance Program has recently recognized three farms in Sanilac County for implementing appropriate pollution prevention practices. The program assists farmers to comply with state and federal environmental regulations and with Right to Farm practices. Technical assistance was provided by the Sanilac Conservation District. The Flynn Township Nature Center of Brown City has been recognized as a MAEAP verified farm in the Forest, Wetlands, and Habitat System. Russell Hay Farm of Palms is a verified farm in the Cropping and Farmstead Systems, while Wadsworth Farms, Inc. of Sandusky is a verified farm in the Cropping System. To become MAEAP verified, farmers must attend an educational seminar, conduct a thorough on-farm risk assessment, and develop and implement an action plan addressing potential environmental risks.
