Road grant expected to create full time jobs in Lapeer County

(LAPEER COUNTY) — A state grant to fund a road project in Lapeer County’s Mayfield Township will inject nearly $1 million in the local economy and bring 100 new jobs. According to State Representative Gary Howell of North Branch and State Senator Mike Green of Mayville, the Transportation Economic Development Fund grant through the Michigan Department of Transportation will pay for improvements to Wilder Road. Kamax LP, which is investing $27.7 million to add manufacturing and warehousing space at its current facility on Roods Lake Road, is expected to create 100 full-time positions during the next 3-years. The grant will help pay for resurfacing Wilder Road from Imlay City Road south to the eastbound I-69 ramps. The total cost of the project is $999,878. Kamax LP develops and produces high-strength fasteners for the automotive and heavy trucking industry-including bolts, wheel studs, and tie rods. Senator Green noted that since its opening in 2006, Kamax has been a major employer in Lapeer County and a strong supporter of the community.
