(MARLETTE) — Ruth Smith of Decker recently celebrated her 102nd birthday at the Hannah Wolfe Retirement Residence in Marlette in the company of family and friends. Ruth truly serves as an inspiration to other residents that live independently at the residence and they will often tell her to slow down because “she’s movin’ too fast!” In recounting some memories from her life, Ruth shared that she was a teacher for 30 years—starting in a one room country school before it expanded to a K-8 school near the Cass City area—and she was a farmer in the Decker area for many years. Ruth has three children, countless grandchildren, and many friends that adore her.
