Police: Man impersonates an officer in Bad Axe city limits

(BAD AXE) — The Bad Axe Police Department is investigating a incident where a man impersonated a police officer. The incident took place early Friday around 1:30 a.m. at a residence on the east side of Bad Axe. Chief Dave Rothe says a 23-year old Bad Axe man and 23-year old Essexville woman were sitting in a vehicle parked at the residence, when they were approached by a man who claimed to be a police officer. According to the victims, the man had them get out of the vehicle while he searched it. Afterward, he advised them that he was not an officer, but lived in the neighborhood and wanted to see what they were up to. An argument ensued and the man pulled out a gun. The two victims were able to overpower the man and take the gun. After a short struggle, the man fled the scene on foot. A suspect was developed and Bad Axe Police were able to make contact with the man. No arrests have been made at this time as the investigation continues.
