(PORT HURON) — The Michigan Department of Transportation says a new currency parity policy is taking effect for the Blue Water Bridge. The change starts Friday and will be for motorists traveling from the U.S. into Canada paying with Canadian currency. MDOT says the policy, allowing adjustment of tolls dependent on the currency exchange rate, is similar to those used elsewhere. The Blue Water Bridge spans the St. Clair River and carries traffic between Port Huron, Michigan, and Point Edward and Sarnia, Ontario. Under the policy, the Canadian currency rate for eastbound traffic will be reviewed and adjusted either up or down on April 1 and Oct. 1 of each year. MDOT stresses that the change isn’t a toll increase. Details of tolls for crossing the bridge are posted online.
