(AREA) — State Representative Gary Howell has co-sponsored legislation that gives the public more access to records involving Michigan’s executive branch and the state Legislature. Howell of North Branch said that on the first day serving the 82nd House District, he agreed to co-sponsor the 10-bill bipartisan legislative package that will subject the offices of the governor and lieutenant governor to the Freedom of Information Act and create the Legislative Open Records Act. The lawmaker says citizens have a right to know what government is doing, and this legislation helps the public hold the Legislature and the governor and lieutenant governor accountable. The bills have been referred to the House Committee on Oversight and Ethics.
