Small fire in bathroom evacuates Anchor Bay High Monday

(IRA TOWNSHIP) — Students at Anchor Bay High School in St. Clair County’s Ira Township were evacuated Monday morning after a small fire was reported inside a bathroom. Officials say the call came into dispatch shortly before 10:30 a.m. St. Clair County Sheriff’s Deputy Larry Fajardo, who is the school’s Resource Deputy, responded to the upstairs bathroom where the fire was started. He was unable to gain access to the bathroom due to heavy smoke. Firefighters from the Ira Township Fire Department arrived on the scene and quickly extinguished the fire. The school remained closed the rest of the day. There were no injuries reported. The fire, which is believed to have been set intentionally, remains under investigation. There is no suspect information at this time.
