Voters weigh candidates’ religious impact

CONCORD, N.C. (AP) – For some voters, this year’s presidential race is a contest is for the soul of the nation.

Christian activist Flip Benham, who voted for Ted Cruz in the North Carolina primary, sees the election as a battle between good and evil. He says Christians “need to let the light of the gospel of Christ shine forth” when they go to the polls.

North Carolina voter Michael Murphy, who cast his ballot for Bernie Sanders, finds such notions threatening. He believes most of the Republican candidates “are theocrats, meaning they want a Christian version of Iran.”
