Fort Gratiot man faces sentencing in tow truck driver’s death May 19

(PORT HURON) — A sentencing date has been set for the Fort Gratiot man who pleaded guilty in the death of tow truck operator Jason Schultz. 18-year old Trent Sheldon is scheduled to appear on May 19 at 9 a.m. in St. Clair County Circuit Court. Sheldon pleaded guilty to operating while intoxicated causing death after waiving his probable cause hearing on March 1. The charge carries a 15-year prison sentence. The crash occurred the morning of January 15 at the intersection of North and Keewahdin Roads in Clyde Township after Sheldon attempted to pass the stopped tow truck on the right side of the road, striking 28-year old Jason Schultz, owner of Preferred Towing. Authorities say the emergency lights were activated on Schultz’s tow truck when the crash occurred. Toxicology reports showed that Sheldon had marijuana in his system at the time of the crash.
