Two killed, five injured in Port Huron Township Crash

(PORT HURON TOWNSHIP) — Two people were killed and five others injured after a man drove the wrong way Sunday evening along the I-69 Business Loop in Port Huron Township. St. Clair County Sheriff Tim Donnellon says 83-year old Ira Cass of Clarkston was driving his Chevrolet Impala east on the westbound side of Business Loop I-69, west of 32nd Street when he crashed head-on into a Chrysler Pacifica, driven by 46-year old John Thayer of Shelby Township. Cass and his 81-year old passenger, Fay Cass, were killed. The second driver and his four passengers, 46-year old Donna Thayer, 73-year old Sharon Thayer, 16-year old Danielle Thayer, and 11-year old Evan Thayer, were all transported by Tri-Hospital EMS to Lake Huron Medical Center in Port Huron with undetermined injuries. Sharon was later taken to a Detroit area hospital with critical injuries. The crash remains under investigation.
