Unlicensed dog owners fined $100 each after fatal mauling

(PORT HURON) — Owners of dogs that fatally mauled a 22-year-old woman in Port Huron have been fined. Andrew Miller and Jessica Johnson each paid $100 last Friday. They had pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of having an unlicensed dog. Authorities have said Rebecca Hardy climbed a fence December 3 where the pit bull and husky were kept. She was then pulled into the yard by the dogs. Hardy’s death has been ruled a suicide because authorities believe she knew the risk of climbing over a fence and entering the yard. Tests also showed she was drunk and had used cocaine and marijuana at some point before her death. The two dogs and a puppy were later euthanized. Reports say Hardy graduated from North Huron High School in Kinde in 2011.
