(ALGONAC) — The state of Michigan is taking public comment on a plan to end beach closings on the St. Clair River in southeastern Michigan. Reports say communities along the river, from Port Huron to Algonac, have taken major steps to improve water quality, especially by controlling sewer overflows. The Department of Environmental Quality will be taking public comment through March 23. A decision could come by late summer after federal agencies participate in the process. The St. Clair County health department still would test beaches for contaminants, especially E. coli. Marysville officials say they still struggle with feces from geese. Coyote decoys have been used in the past to scare geese.
