Brown City’s storm and sewer drains inspected; interest showed in Soybean Festival

(BROWN CITY) — Michigan Pipe Inspection, Inc. took video of three areas of concern in Brown City last week, first taking a look at the storm drain on Lincoln Street south of Wood Street. Crews checked to see if any repairs were needed prior to road repairs being done later this summer. City Manager Clint Holmes informed the council Monday night that the drain, which was installed in 1981, is in excellent condition. The second inspection was the sanitary sewer system behind the old car wash on West Main Street. Careful analysis of the video revealed no apparent issues and the DPW now has an exact location to install a new clean-out point. The third was the storm drain on Main Street between Reed and Lincoln Streets to determine the cause of an apparent blockage. The camera was only able to go about 80-feet before the pipe became impassible. MDOT is responsible for that section of the city’s storm water drainage system and will reimburse the city for the inspection and cost of repairs, as well as the cost of video inspection of the storm drains on the remainder of Main Street.

In other business, residents interested in the Soybean Festival met on February 18 to discuss reinstating the festival this summer. City Manager Holmes said that about 21 individuals attended the meeting and were provided with a copy of the City Ordinance governing the Festival Commission and the profit/loss statement from the 2015 Festival. The group is working on an event schedule and assigning responsibilities to volunteers. Work is being done to acquire a carnival and the state of a fireworks show is pending.
