Pavlov challenges Legislators to read to 1,000 students

(AREA) — State Senator Phil Pavlov has challenged his fellow lawmakers to honor “March is reading Month” and read to at least 1,000 students each. Pavlov of St. Clair Township exceeded that goal in 2015 by reading to 1,150 students in his district. Pavlov says reading opens up new worlds for children and adults, teaching us to question and imagine in ways we have never done before. He emphasized that about one in six children who are not reading proficiently by the end of third grade do not graduate from high school on time, a rate four times greater than that for proficient readers. Area educators are encouraged to schedule a time for Senator Pavlov to come read in their classroom.
