20-foot boat ready for search, rescue, patrol operations

(BAY PORT) — A new 20-foot boat will be deployed for search, rescue and patrol operations in the Thumb region including parts of Lake Huron. A commissioning ceremony takes place Thursday near Bay Port for the airboat named “Sheriffs’ Endeavor” that can ride on ice as well as water. The boat is part of a joint effort by the Huron and Tuscola County Sheriff’s Departments and it replaces a 16-foot airboat that’s been used since 2000. Officials say all but $35,000 of the $150,000 project was funded by Homeland Security grants. Demonstrations are planned as part of the event.
