Unlicensed dog owners to be charged after fatal mauling

(PORT HURON) — Prosecutors are charging two Port Huron dog owners with having unlicensed dogs in connection with the fatal mauling of a 22-year-old woman. The 90-day misdemeanors against Andrew Miller and Jessica Johnson were authorized Wednesday. The charges also can carry $500 fines. Authorities have said Rebecca Hardy climbed a fence December 3 where the pit bull and husky were kept. She then was pulled into the yard by the dogs. Hardy’s death has been ruled a suicide because authorities believe she knew the risk of climbing over a fence and entering the yard. Tests also showed she was drunk and had used cocaine and marijuana at some point before her death. The two dogs and puppies at the home were later euthanized.
