Suicidal man prompts closure of Blue Water Bridge

(PORT HURON) — Traffic was stopped on the Blue Water Bridge connecting Port Huron with Canada Tuesday afternoon as rescue crews safely removed a suicidal man. Bridge officials say the spans in both directions were closed, but the eastbound span reopened around 4:30 p.m. Officials say the man stopped his vehicle in the right lane of the westbound span in the middle of the bridge and climbed on the bridge railing. Port Huron Fire Battalion Chief Mark Ford says firefighter Matt Oleaga crawled over the railing while strapped into a harness and pulled the man back on onto the bridge. The man was driving a vehicle with Canadian plates and was taken into custody by Canadian authorities.
