Brown City residents interested in reinstating Soybean Festival

(BROWN CITY) — At Monday’s Brown City Council meeting, city resident Frank Fiorello and four other volunteers expressed interest in reinstating the annual soybean festival for this coming summer. City Manager Clint Holmes said the festival was cancelled because of a lack of volunteers, problems in obtaining a carnival, and the expiration of the fireworks contract. He said that it takes $25,000 to put on a festival and there is about $6,000 in the festival fund. Fiorello and the four other residents said they would work toward getting more volunteers, raising money, as well as organizing activities, a carnival and fireworks. A meeting has been scheduled for 7 p.m. on Thursday, February 18th at city hall to see how much interest is shown in renewing the festival. Anyone interested in working on the festival committee is urged to attend.
