(MARLETTE) — A work crew inmate’s attempt to flee was cut short on Thursday afternoon, but not before a high speed chase through Sanilac and Tuscola counties. According to Sanilac County Undersheriff Brad Roff, the inmate was working with a crew washing vehicles at the Carsonville Fire Department. The Work Crew Supervisor noticed the inmate was gone and also noticed that a vehicle belonging to a Carsonville DPW worker was missing and had been observed heading away from the scene. A broadcasted alert was sent to area police agencies to be on the lookout for the vehicle and man who police learned was from the Marlette area. A short time later, the stolen vehicle was spotted by Marlette Police and a traffic stop was attempted. The inmate then fled police at speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour for about ten miles into Tuscola County. The inmate then fled on foot after losing control of the vehicle and ending up stuck in a field. He was eventually apprehended without incident by police on Centerline Road west of Clothier Road in Tuscola County’s Koylton Township. The 20-year-old from Marlette was then returned to the Sanilac County Jail and removed from work crew duties as further charges are pending.
