Sanilac County Board of Commissioners vote to impose lien on property in Decker

(SANILAC COUNTY) — The Sanilac County Board of Commissioners met Tuesday afternoon and authorized the county drain commissioner to impose a lien on a piece of property on Deckerville Road in the village of Decker. In November 2014, a notice of maintenance was sent to the property owner ordering several trees near the Stoney Creek and Branches Drain to be removed. The trees had created an obstruction for maintenance workers and were increasing costs for performing work on the drain. In October 2015, the drain commissioner removed the trees at a cost to the county of $8,631. An invoice for the cost of the tree removal was sent to the property owner, but officials did not receive a response. After several more attempts to contact the property owner, it was recommended by county attorneys that a lien be imposed. Commissioners voted 3 to 1 in favor of the lien, with Commissioner Hoffman voting against the lien.

In other business, commissioners unanimously reappointed Fremont Township resident Gary Shell to the Land Bank Authority Board, as well as Brown City resident Bill Walters to the Region Seven Agency on Aging Advisory Council.
