(AREA) — More than 45,000 students at 44 Michigan high schools will get driving safety education as part of a program for the 2015-2016 school year. The state on Tuesday announced schools participating in Strive For a Safer Drive including Croswell-Lexington in Sanilac County and Yale Schools in St. Clair County. Schools can each get up to $1,000 as part of the program. The partnership between Ford Driving Skills for Life and the Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning seeks to reduce crashes involving teens. Schools and students can develop and implement campaigns on topics including distracted driving, seat belts and underage drinking. The state says in 2014 there were 40,865 crashes in Michigan with a driver age 15-19, resulting in 69 deaths and 479 serious injuries.
