Information sought in Marlette area storage unit B&E’s and vehicle theft

(MARLETTE TOWNSHIP) — The Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office is seeking information relating to a series of storage unit break-in’s and a vehicle theft that occurred between the evening hours of Thursday, January 21 and the early morning hours of Friday, January 22 at the Marlette Mini Storage, located at 1995 Vandyke Road in Marlette Township. On Friday, January 22, dispatch received a call just before 11 a.m. from a citizen reporting that a vehicle was found running in a fence row in the area of Stilson Road and Isles Road in Flynn Township. Deputies responded to the area and located a 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe, burgundy in color, running and shifted into drive. An initial investigation revealed that someone had placed a piece of plastic between the seat and the accelerator and the vehicle drove itself into the fence row where it became stuck and continued to run. Deputies were able to track the vehicle back to the Marlette Mini Storage where it was being stored. It was also discovered that the locks had been cut off on five of the storage units and items were missing.
