Wife of pastor freed by Iran anticipates reunion

BOISE, Idaho (AP) – The wife of one of the four Americans freed by Iran as part of a prisoner swap says she and their two young children are excited about seeing him for the first time since 2012.

Naghmeh Abedini of Boise, Idaho, says her husband, Pastor Saeed Abedini, endured torture and beatings in Iranian prisons but “never wavered” in his Christian faith.

Abedini says she’s proud of her husband, but acknowledges that the family will likely need counseling after more than three years apart during which they’ve all changed.

Naghmeh Abedini was a tireless advocate for her husband’s release until this past November, when she told supporters that he had been an abusive husband and that she planned to step out of the public eye for prayer, fasting and more time with her children.

She says the entire ordeal has taught her to trust God regardless of circumstances.
