Sanilac County Community Foundation awards over $14,000 in grants to local non-profits

(AREA) — The Sanilac County Community Foundation has distributed over $14,000 in grants to the Sanilac ISD, Croswell Lions Club, Sandusky Lions Club, and McKenzie Health System in Sandusky. The 2015 Fall Grants were awarded during the Community Foundation’s meeting held in December. The Sanilac Intermediate School District received a grant, funded by the Oldford Fund and the Steps 4 Success Fund, to be used toward a Sway Fun Glider. The glider is a part of an ongoing playground construction project, which started last June. The Sway Fun Glider can be used with students of all ages. The Croswell Lions Club received a grant, funded by the Oldford Fund to be used toward the Goodfellow Project for the purchase of food, coats, boots, underwear, socks, and pajamas for children and families in need. The Sandusky Lions Club received a grant, funded by the Oldford Fund and the Steps 4 Success Fund, to be used toward a KidSight mobile screening trailer and updated camera. The camera and trailer will be used to screen children ages 5 and under to identify potential vision problems, in hopes of identifying and correcting the problems before they enter school. McKenzie Health System will use grant dollars from the Steps 4 Success Fund toward a new pilot program to fight childhood obesity. The partnership with Thumb Elite Athletics will provide four groups of 20 children with an educational fitness class spanning 5 weeks while a dietitian provides parents with a healthy eating class.
