Columbiaville couple killed in two-vehicle crash Monday

(DEERFIELD TOWNSHIP) — A husband and wife were killed and another man injured in a two-vehicle crash Monday evening around 6:50 p.m. in Lapeer County’s Deerfield Township. Police say 70-year-old James Hinman of Columbiaville was traveling west on Columbiaville Road west of Lapeer Road when he lost control of his car and crossed into the eastbound lane, into the path of a Subaru Outback driven by a 29-year-old Columbiaville man. The Outback struck the Hinman vehicle broadside on the passenger side. Both vehicles came to rest on south side of the roadway. Hinman and his wife, 68-year-old Peggy Hinman, were pronounced dead at the scene. The 29-year-old Columbiaville man was transported to McLaren-Lapeer Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Deputies say that neither excessive speed nor alcohol were factors in the crash and that weather and roadway conditions may have been a factor. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact the Lapeer County Sheriff’s Department.
