Building remodel bid awarded during special meeting

(SANDUSKY) — The Sanilac County Board of Commissioners awarded the bid of $965,000 for the Emergency Operations and Training Center building remodel project to Booms Construction, Inc. of Bad Axe. The building is located at 95 Dawson Street in Sandusky. The bid drawings were released to contractors on November 24 and Booms Construction was selected during a special meeting on December 23. The bid request included a total for the Base Proposal, Alternate #1 with site improvements, Alternate #2 with single ply PVC roofing, and Alternate #3 with a mechanical split system. Project Architect Mark Chamberlain recommended the county consider the Base Proposal and Alternate #2 at this time. The three lowest bidders were Thompson Builders, LLC of Sandusky at $963,000, Booms Construction, Inc. at $965,000, and Brown Builders and Contracting of Lexington at $995,748. It was noted that Thompson Builders did not bid on Alternate #2 and there was concern with the performance and labor bond required in the bid proposal. The board ultimately decided to go with Booms Construction, who came in with the second lowest bid. County Treasurer Trudy Nicol then updated the board on the available funds in the Tax Foreclosure Fund and $842,000 has been set aside for the project.
