Troopers rescue child from burning home in Lapeer

(LAPEER) — Michigan State Police Troopers rescued a 6-year old child from a burning home Monday night in Lapeer. Troopers overheard radio traffic about the engulfed house fire at 343 Elm Street around 8 p.m. Dispatch advised that there was an unknown number of people trapped inside. Troopers John Sholtz and Jared Grigg arrived on the scene and were able to get in the house through a back door and located the unresponsive child on the floor in the attached garage. They quickly started to render first aid and learned that no one else was inside the home. The child was treated for smoke inhalation at the scene. Authorities say the others in the house at the time of the blaze were able to escape before police and fire personnel arrived.
