(SANILAC COUNTY) — Sanilac County Sheriff’s deputies had a busy day on Monday as lake effect snowfall, coupled with strong winds and cold temperatures caused multiple accidents predominantly on the east side of the county. Deputies responded to one accident after another for most of the morning and early afternoon hours until the primary weather pattern broke. Undersheriff Brad Roff says at least three accidents resulted in injuries, including a two-vehicle crash on Maple Grove Road near Basler Road were two vehicles were involved and one person was transported to McKenzie Health System for treatment. Two other single vehicle crashes, one on Lakeshore Road near Mills Road and another on Wildcat Road near Galbraith Line Road, where a car rolled over, resulted in minor injuries. In addition, Undersheriff Roff says police responded to at least eight other non-injury accidents, one where two cars collided and several others that went into the ditch or struck deer. Sheriff Garry Biniecki reminds motorists to slow down during hazardous weather conditions and factor extra time into their travel plans. Slower traveling speeds and paying full attention while driving, will give motorists more time to react to potential hazards this winter season.
