Lapeer teen remains hospitalized following early morning crash

(ELBA TOWNSHIP) — A 17-year old Lapeer resident was seriously injured in a single-vehicle crash early Monday morning at the intersection of Hadley and Stewart Roads in Lapeer County’s Elba Township. Sheriff’s deputies say the teen was heading north on Hadley around 6:20 a.m. when he ran the stop sign and struck a tree on the driver’s side of the Volkswagen Jetta. Deputies say the 17-year old was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash. He was extricated from the car by the Elba and Hadley Township Fire Departments and transported to McLaren Lapeer Regional Hospital where he remains hospitalized with life-threatening injuries. The foggy conditions is considered a contributing factor in the crash, which remains under investigation by the Lapeer County Sheriff’s Department.
