Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office makes promotions

(SANILAC COUNTY) — The Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office has promoted Deputy Matthew Armstrong to the Uniform Services Sergeant position and Sergeant Nathan Smith as Detective Sergeant. Sgt. Armstrong is a 2002 graduate of Sandusky High School and received his Bachelor Degree in Criminal Justice from Ferris State University. He graduated from the police academy in 2006 and started his career at the Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office after his training. He has held the positions of Marine deputy, Field Training Officer, Accident Reconstructionist, and D.A.R.E. instructor. Detective/Sgt. Smith will take on the role as the department’s lead investigator, along with managing the Detective Bureau’s investigations. He has also held many positions within the department including Drug Task Force investigator, Marine Division Supervisor, K-9 Handler and Supervisor, Field Training Supervisor, and evidence technician.
