North Huron Schools teacher honored at MFB annual meeting

(HURON COUNTY) — The Michigan Farm Bureau honored Joe Ankley, an agriscience teacher at North Huron Schools, with the organization’s Agriscience Educator of the Year award. Joe teaches 6-12th grade agriscience courses at North Huron School in Kinde, inspiring students to participate in multiple ag-related events in the Thumb. Mr. Ankley was instrumental in helping his students finish first in the state with their presentation about wind energy this year. Ankley’s students also operate a community garden with grant funding, raise 100 chickens each fall to donate to the local food kitchen, and help lead ag in the classroom projects at elementary schools. Ankley explained that it’s all about teaching skills that translate far beyond the classroom including public speaking and leadership skills.
