Dedication ceremony held for animal control updates in St. Clair County

(PORT HURON TOWNSHIP) — A dedication ceremony was held on November 20 at the St. Clair County Animal Control/Adoption Center for an addition and updates to the facility. The dedication was held in honor of Rose Couzens, who donated approximately $45,000 from her trust to the Animal Control Office. With that money, a new laboratory/surgical center was added. Also, a new young pet nursery has been put in place, allowing young kittens and puppies to be separated from other animals. This helps them to remain healthier as they move to their new adopted homes. Other improvements included updates to the ventilation system, including air purification to prevent the spread of disease and a stray dog isolation area, which prevents disease from spreading to the adoptable population. “We are honored and humbled by the generosity of Ms. Couzens,” said Sheriff Donnellon. “We are very excited about the opportunity to take even better care of the puppies and kittens who enter our adoption center.” Rose Couzens was a resident of Emmett, who passed away December 31, 2011. A plaque in her honor has been placed in the entrance area of the Animal Control Office.
