(LAPEER) — A prosecutor will not pursue charges against the husband of a lawmaker who sent anonymous text messages threatening to reveal an extramarital affair between his wife and another legislator. Lapeer County Prosecutor Tim Turkelson confirmed Sunday that no charges will be filed against Joe Gamrat or anyone who helped him. The state police sent a report to the prosecutor after investigating former Representative Todd Courser’s complaint of getting threatening texts over his relationship with then-Representative Cindy Gamrat. Courser resigned and Gamrat was expelled in September. Courser sent a false email saying he had sex with a male prostitute, which was an attempt to make the affair less plausible if revealed by an anonymous “blackmailer.”
