Man shoots self following domestic dispute

(EMMETT TOWNSHIP) — A 27-year old Emmett Township man remains hospitalized following a domestic dispute Wednesday. St. Clair County Sheriff Tim Donnellon says the man allegedly confronted his father with a shotgun around 5 p.m. Wednesday in the 4000 block of Emmett Road, physically assaulted the man and left the property. The son returned two hours later and went into a barn on the property and barricaded himself inside. Deputies, Yale Police officers, and Troopers responded and were told the man had a shotgun with him. Negotiations took place for about 4-hours before two shots were heard coming from inside the barn around 11 p.m. The suspect had shot himself and was transported to McLaren Port Huron Hospital and later transferred to Detroit Receiving Hospital for treatment of his wounds. The man’s father received minor injuries during the assault. The incident remains under investigation and the condition of the 27-year old man is unknown.
