Horse struck by car in Elk Township; two other horses still at large

(ELK TOWNSHIP) — Sanilac County Sheriff’s deputies were sent to the scene of a reported multi-car accident involving a horse Wednesday evening around 8 p.m. in Sanilac County’s Elk Township. According deputies, 71-year-old Gerald Knapp of Croswell was traveling east on Peck Road when he failed to see the horse in the road. He struck the horse then continued east into the path of a westbound car driven by Jamie Walls of Peck. Knapp was removed from the car by the Elk Township Fire Department and Croswell EMS. He was transported to McKenzie Health System for treatment. Walls was not injured. The owners of the horse told police that they had just purchased four horses that day and three of the horses had gotten out of their pen. The other two horses still remain at large in that area. Drivers are advised to be on the lookout for the missing horses.
