Local hospital’s and businesses raise funds and awareness of Breast Cancer

(AREA) — McKenzie Health System in Sandusky and Marlette Regional Hospital have partnered during several community events during National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The long-standing rivalry among athletes of Marlette and Brown City schools heated up as their varsity football teams faced off on September 25 in Brown City during the 2nd annual Pink Out for Cancer Clash. The event raised funds and awareness about cancer with proceeds benefiting the B.C.U.P.S. program at Marlette Regional Hospital. B.C.U.P.S. provides free mammogram screenings for uninsured and underinsured patients in the Thumb. A past partner in the crusade against breast cancer, Graff Chevrolet Buick in Sandusky, recently sponsored McKenzie’s 1st Annual “Pink Up The Pace 5k” which took place on Saturday, October 10. Decked out in everything from pink hair to pink pajamas, 120 participants began the race at Graff and proceeded around a marked track at Woodland Hills Golf Course, traveling through several stations where pink chalk and glitter were flying. Proceeds benefit the McKenzie Women’s Health and Wellness Fund, which is used to support local women in the pursuit for health. Also, Majel Schumacher is offering pink hair extensions for $10 throughout the month of October at Reflections on S. Elk Street in Sandusky with proceeds going to the McKenzie Women’s Health and Wellness Fund.
