LANSING, Mich. (AP) – A 66-foot spruce from the western Upper Peninsula has been chosen as this year’s state Christmas tree. The Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget picked the tree and announced the choice on Wednesday. The spruce is from Wakefield, east of Ironwood, and is being donated by Florence Daniels in memory of her late husband, Jim Daniels. He was a teacher, coach and U.P. Sports Hall of Fame inductee. The tree will be cut down on Oct. 28 and arrive at the Capitol building on Oct. 31. A tree lighting and fireworks display are scheduled for Nov. 20 at Lansing’s Silver Bells in the City celebration. The tree is Michigan’s 30th official Christmas tree.
