FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. (AP) – Arizona Cardinals quarterback Drew Stanton is helping to outfit a football team at the suburban Detroit high school he graduated from with special equipment to help protect players from internal injuries. The former Michigan State player’s visit Tuesday to Harrison High School in Farmington Hills is in partnership with the Taylor Haugen Foundation. The foundation was created by two Niceville, Florida, parents after their son, a sophomore at Niceville High School, died from internal injuries sustained on the football field in 2008. It has already outfitted nearly 3,000 players in eight states with gear. Experts say young football players are especially vulnerable to injuries because there are such variations in the sizes and skill levels of players during their early teen years while they are still growing.
